Student Scholarships Available for Workshop on Supporting Diversity in
Systems Research (Diversity '08) part of OSDI'08
December 7, 2008, San Diego, CA

http://www.usenix.org/event/diversity08/

The first Workshop on Supporting Diversity in Systems Research is a
community-building event, serving both to educate women and under-represented minorities about the opportunities in systems research and to support researchers who are already working in the field. The workshop will include a range of panel sessions and presentations by leading researchers from academia and industrial labs. The program will focus on information and advice specific to systems research, covering topics in crafting a successful research career, from identifying important problems to building a successful career in academia or in an industrial research lab. Presentations will target early-career researchers and under-represented minority and women students at the graduate and senior undergraduate levels who have interests in systems research. The workshop will also serve as a friendly networking opportunity or members of the community to meet each other before attending the OSDI '08 conference.

A significant number of scholarship award for graduate and senior
undergraduate students are still available for travel, hotel and workshop attendance and will be processed on a rolling basis with a deadline of 11/17.
Applications received after this deadline will be processed, but may have difficulty with hotel availability.

The purpose of this posting in multifold. First, we want the greater systems community to be aware of the Diversity Workshop and encourage support and participation. Second, for graduate and senior undergraduate students, we invite and encourage you to attend. The first step is to apply for one of these scholarships. Third is a request for help from the faculty mentors out there. We ask you to get in touch with your students who may benefit from this opportunity and get them to apply for scholarships and attend this workshop.

Please see http://www.usenix.org/event/diversity08/ for both a
link to the workshop description and tentative program as well as a link to the scholarship application procedures.
