I wanted to share with everyone an article I read by Dr. Frank Czarny about his experiences sitting on PhD committee boards for African American PhD candidates. Attached is the pdf document. The paragraph in navy blue is where he discusses four factors that 'Maton and Hrabowski III (2004)' believe can enhance the PhD experience for those of us focusing on getting our PhD in computer science, engineering and other hard sciences.
After reading the article please give your perspective on the article as well as share your own experiences (good & bad) from getting your masters or PhD in computer science.
Thanks this was very helpful. I'm not there yet, so I don't know whether my experience will be the same, but so far I am getting good support in my department.
