Dr. Dennis Kimbro gave a keynote in 2006 at the Black MBA Diversity Conference highlighting how one achieves greatness in work and life. The relevant portions are highlighted if you follow the above url.
What I found particularly astounding was the disparity between the top 1% of White earners and the top 1% of Black earners. As of '04, the top 1% of Whites had an annual income of $3.29M whereas the top 1% of Blacks had an annual income of $200K or more.
That number for whites seems awfully high. This article from The New York Times in 2005 put the annual household income for the Top 1% of ALL earners at $348,000.
The language used in the Kimbro article is somewhat loose. This source says that the minimum to be in the top 1% was $348K, but the AVERAGE was $1.1M.
Just speculation, but Kimbro could be stating the average for the top 1% of White earners, and stating the lower bound for the top 1% of Black earners to sensationalize the disparity.
